COMMENTARY—Cutting public funding of WTVI and other organizations may be the best thing that ever happened to them.

I vividly remember the day, even the moment, when the blinders fell off my eyes when it comes to the role of government and how government should spend its money.

I was sitting on an airplane in 1981. Next to me was a woman who served on the staff of a nonprofit organization. I spent the first part of the flight listening to her lambast Ronald Reagan for his cruelty and lack of compassion because of his recent tax cuts and de-funding of what she considered to be important programs.
